Trusted Dermatologist in North Stamford, ct

Elite Dermatology Physicians is extending our Contact Allergen Testing Program.

We have offered the North American 80 series for years. The North American 80 Series is the comprehensive baseline panel. It screens for the 80 most frequent culprits behind allergic contact dermatitis in North America, which includes common metals (like nickel and cobalt), everyday fragrances, liquid preservatives found in skincare, and rubber compounds. Because occupational and hobby-related exposures vary wildly, we also offer specialized extended panels. These allow us to test for highly specific allergens found in niche environments—such as hairdressing chemicals, dental materials, industrial compounds, or specific cosmetic lines.

your testing schedule:

  • Monday (Day 1):

    • The patches will be applied to your back and secured with Hypafix (a type of adhesive) to ensure the patches stay in place. The patches will be labeled and boundaries will be marked with a pen.

    • Applied patches must be kept completely dry. Do not shower. You cannot wash your back until Friday, after the patches are removed.

  • Wednesday (Day 3):

    • 48 hours later, our office will carefully remove the patches and bandages.

    • An initial read of the response will be completed.

  • Friday (Day 5):

    • Another 48 hours later, you will return for a second reading of your test to check if any additional reactions have developed in the 48 hours after the first evaluation.

    • You will be given instructions to use the website www.ACDScamp.org as well as a search code. Through this app, you will be able to identify products that contain the allergens you are allergic to.

    • Your test may be completely negative; this means that it is less likely that an allergy is causing your skin problem.  Further testing may be necessary in the future.

Please inform us if:

  1. You are pregnant/nursing or trying to conceive

  2. You have recently taken prednisone/steroids by mouth or injection

  3. You have applied steroid creams, tacrolimus or pimecrolimus to your back within the last two weeks

The Patch Testing Protocol

What is Patch Testing?
Patch testing is a procedure used to identify whether you have an allergy to specific substances commonly found in dermatological products and skincare. During the test, the necessary contact allergens will be applied to your skin in adhesive panels of 10-allergens each on a Monday. You will return on Wednesday for allergen removal, and on Friday for the final 96-hour read.

Important Instructions:

  • Applied patches must be kept completely dry.

  • DO NOT GET YOUR BACK WET during the 5-day testing period.

  • You should not swim, shower or participate in any activities that will cause significant sweating during the 5 day testing period.

  • Leave the patches in place for 48 hours. We will remove the patches after 48 hours in the office. Please wear an old t-shirt or dark clothing when you come for your patch testing removal, as there will be pen markings on your back that can damage clothing.

  • If you are unable to contact our office, you may have someone CAREFULLY remove or cut away the individual patch that is causing the reaction.

  • At the end of the 5-day testing period, if allergens or irritants are identified, we will generate a list of products that are safe for you to use.  We will give you the database access codes at your visit.

  • You MAY take Zyrtec, Allegra, or Benadryl (or other antihistamines) during testing

  • You may NOT take any form of systemic steroids within 30 days prior to or during patch testing

  • Oral steroids cannot be consumed for 4 weeks prior to testing.

  • If you experience severe itching or pain underneath a patch, call our office at 203-842-2992
